Steven Moffat revealed at a Doctor Who Press Conference on March 21, 2012 that Coleman was going to play Matt Smith as the Doctor's companion after Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and others left the show. Moffat stated that he picked Coleman for the role of companion because she would work best with Smith. Also, Moffat noted that she spoke faster than Smith. Her work has been much more prominent on TV than in films. Eva's TV roles on Dr. Maria Santos, in All My Children, and Detective Natalia Boa Vista in CSI Miami are notable. The character of the character Dr. Maria Santos in All My Children landed the actress 2 Daytime Emmy nominations. This provided her with the opportunity to showcase her music creativity. Eva is not only an actress, she is an entrepreneur and philanthropist. She is a thrice-married woman and has a daughter with her second partner.
